AUA

Founded in 1973, the Uruguayan Medical Acupuncture Association (Asociación Uruguaya de Acupuntura – AUA) is a non-profit scientific organization composed exclusively of physicians specialized in Medical Acupuncture.

For more than five decades, the Association has played a leading role in the development, education, and advancement of Medical Acupuncture in Uruguay, promoting the highest standards of professional practice, scientific integrity, and patient care.

What AUA stands for

Main Objectives

  • Promote the continued development and responsible practice of Medical Acupuncture.
  • Provide high-quality education and training for physicians, encouraging lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, and scientific research.
  • Strengthen the recognition of Medical Acupuncture by healthcare authorities, academic institutions, and government agencies.
  • Advocate for the integration of Medical Acupuncture into both public and private healthcare systems, ensuring greater access for patients.
  • Inform the public about the benefits, indications, and appropriate use of Medical Acupuncture in healthcare.

Among its most significant achievements has been the official recognition of Acupuncture as a Medical Act by Presidential Decree in 2001, a landmark in the history of Medical Acupuncture in Uruguay.

More recently, the Association played a key role in achieving official recognition of Medical Acupuncture as a university-based Postgraduate Medical Program, accredited by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2022.

Today, the Uruguayan Medical Acupuncture Association continues to work closely with national and international scientific organizations like FILASMA and ICMART, contributing to the advancement of Medical Acupuncture through education, research, professional collaboration, and the promotion of the highest standards of medical practice.
