FILASMA
The Ibero-Latin American Federation of Medical Acupuncture Societies (FILASMA) is a non-profit scientific organization that brings together the legally established national Medical Acupuncture societies of Ibero-Latin America.
Each member society is composed exclusively of licensed physicians, in accordance with the medical regulations and legislation of its respective country.
Since its foundation, FILASMA has worked to strengthen cooperation among its member societies and to promote the highest standards in Medical Acupuncture through scientific exchange, education, and international collaboration.

Principal Objectives
- Promote the official recognition of Medical Acupuncture by academic institutions, medical associations, healthcare organizations, and public health authorities throughout the region.
- Advance the teaching, practice, and scientific development of Medical Acupuncture.
- Establish common standards for the education, certification, and professional qualifications of Medical Acupuncture physicians, while encouraging the development of a shared core curriculum among member societies.
- Foster the exchange of successful experiences that have led, in different countries, to official recognition by Ministries of Health, medical regulatory bodies, and the incorporation of Medical Acupuncture into undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
- Promote constructive dialogue with universities, medical institutions, and the scientific community, highlighting the growing body of experimental research and controlled clinical trials that supports the practice of Medical Acupuncture.
- Encourage the integration of Medical Acupuncture into contemporary healthcare as an evidence-informed medical discipline that complements other medical specialties and therapeutic approaches.
- Organize international congresses, scientific meetings, and educational activities dedicated to Medical Acupuncture and related fields.
Founded in 1992, FILASMA has been led by rotating presidencies representing its member countries, reflecting its collaborative and multinational character. Every two years, the Federation organizes the Ibero-Latin American Congress of Medical Acupuncture, recognized for its high academic standards and scientific excellence.
In 2000, FILASMA and ICMART (International Council of Medical Acupuncture and Related Techniques) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a long-standing partnership dedicated to advancing Medical Acupuncture through scientific collaboration, educational initiatives, and mutual support in their respective international congresses and activities.
Today, FILASMA continues to serve as a leading scientific network that promotes excellence in Medical Acupuncture throughout Ibero-Latin America while strengthening collaboration with colleagues and institutions around the world.
